Four MPs Awarded for Sponsoring Good Bills

Four Members of the National Assembly have been recognized for demonstrating exemplary leadership in promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-aligned Legislation.

The lawmakers were feted during the closing session of the conference, which was held from November 26–28, 2025, at the Pride Inn Paradise Resort in Mombasa.

The event was hosted by the State Department for Economic Planning in collaboration with the SDGs Inter-Agency Technical Working Sub-Committee.

Held under the theme “𝑅𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑡𝑜 2030: 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑝, 𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼𝑛𝑛𝑜𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝐹𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒,” the conference convened a diverse array of participants, including government representatives, representatives of the civil society, the private sector, academia, the media, and development partners.

The participants deliberated on practical and scalable solutions to accelerate Kenya’s progress toward the SDGs.

The highlight of the three-day event was the closing gala dinner, where the lawmakers were recognized for their specific legislative advocacy, among other nominees from various categories.

MPs Awarded and Bills Sponsored

Suna West MP Peter Masara was feted for his National Police Service (Amendment) Act, 2025.

Similarly, Nominated MP Irene Mayaka was recognized for sponsoring the Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Startup Bill, 2022.

Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu also received recognition for sponsoring the Institute of Social Work Professionals Bill, 2023.

The Chairperson of the Kenya Youth Parliamentary Association (KYPA) and Manyatta MP John Mukunji was also recognized for championing youth inclusion through the Association.

Bondo lawmaker and the Chairperson of the SDG Parliamentary Caucus, Dr. Gideon Ochanda, also attended the event, where he delivered a keynote address.

About the SDG Conference

The conference concluded with a strong commitment to deepen collaboration, strengthen data-driven decision-making, and scale innovative financing models as Kenya approaches the 2030 deadline.

Participants reaffirmed the national pledge to “𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑵𝒐 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒅,” emphasizing that SDGs implementation must remain inclusive, equitable, and centered on the needs of all citizens—especially vulnerable and marginalized communities.

The renewed partnerships and resolutions set during the conference position Kenya strategically to advance more decisively toward a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future for all.
