Sifuna Reacts to Oburu Odinga Health Rumours, Accuses Govt of Spreading Misinformation

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence regarding the rumours surrounding Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, saying that he is dead.
Speaking in the Senate on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, he said that a lot of misinformation is being spread and the government is not doing anything to stop it.
“I have never seen any action being taken by the government to stop misinformation,” he said.
He also blamed the government for a lot of misinformation that is circulating on social media, saying the government pays bloggers to spread misinformation and insult people.

“This government itself hires bloggers to spread misinformation and attack other political opponents,” said Sifuna.
On the same note he said that on October 6 2026, there was very alarming misinformation which was saying that Oburu is dead but he says actions need to be taken to curb misinformation.

Additionally, he wished Oburu a quick recovery, praying that he is well and recovering so that he may soon resume his normal duties.
“Yesterday there was very alarming information about one of our colleagues, the Senator of Siaya. We continue to pray that he is okay and that he gets well soon and resumes his duties,” Sifuna said.
Rumours About Oburu
There have been rumours circulating on social media saying that Oburu is dead because he has been sick; however, his family has cleared the air and said that he is recovering well.
However, Oburu has not been able to attend the opening of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum, which is today, October 7, 2026.
He has since sent his speech and also explained why he is not present during the ceremony, saying that he is following strict directives from his doctors that he needs to rest.

“Finally, I wish to share a personal update. As you can see, I am speaking to you while observing strict directives from my doctors to rest and limit my physical engagements,” he said.
Despite the rumours, Oburu and his family have assured Kenyans that he is alive and just recovering at home, while his family tells Kenyans to always verify information.
