President William Ruto has announced plans to establish a Raila Memorial Library, Museum and Research Centre at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Siaya County as part of the next phase of development at the mausoleum.
Speaking during the commissioning of the mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi on Wednesday, October 7, Ruto said the planned facility would expand the site by creating a centre for historical learning, research and preservation.
“And this now brings me finally back to Kang’o ka Jaramogi and the reason we are here. This mausoleum will not be a silent place. It will be a living classroom. What we have completed was just the first phase. In the next phase, we will build the Raila Memorial Library, Museum, and Research Center,” Ruto said.
Raila Memorial Library, Museum and Research Centre to Preserve Legacy
Through the planned Raila Memorial Library, Museum and Research Centre, young Kenyans and visitors from across Africa will have a space to learn about Raila Odinga’s life and contribution to Kenya’s history.
Beyond historical learning, Ruto said the project would connect Kang’o ka Jaramogi with heritage tourism by positioning the site within the Western Tourism Circuit.
“Young Kenyans and visitors from across Africa will come here to learn what courage looks like. This site will become a major heritage destination in the Western Tourism Circuit,” Ruto said.
