Jambojet Issues Statement After Ebola Case on Entebbe-Nairobi Flight

Jambojet has issued a statement after an Ebola case was confirmed in Kenya involving a passenger who travelled on its Entebbe-Nairobi flight JM 8523 on Saturday, October 3.

The airline said it is working with health authorities to identify and manage passengers and crew who may have been in contact with the patient.

This statement comes as the Ministry of Health leads contact-tracing efforts following confirmation of Kenya’s first Ebola case.

Jambojet said it was coordinating with the Ministry of Health, Port Health Services and other relevant authorities as the public health response continues.

Jambojet Coordinates with Health Authorities

Jambojet said it was supporting efforts to identify people who may have come into contact with the passenger while also monitoring the situation.

“We are working closely with the Ministry of Health, Port Health Services and other relevant authorities to support the ongoing public health response, including the identification and management of the other guests and crew who may have been in contact with the individual,” the airline said in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6.

The airline added that the health and safety of its guests, crew and staff remains its highest priority.

Jambojet also urged passengers and members of the public to rely on information shared through its verified @FlyJambojet social media platforms and relevant health authorities.

Ebola Patient Travelled to Nairobi on October 3

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale confirmed Kenya’s first Ebola case on Tuesday, identifying the patient as a Kenyan citizen who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The patient travelled from the DRC to Kampala by road before boarding Jambojet flight JM 8523 to Nairobi on Saturday, October 3.

After arriving in Nairobi, the patient was taken to Nairobi Hospital, where he was isolated and tested for Ebola. He later died on Monday night while receiving treatment.

Health authorities have since begun tracing passengers, crew and other people who may have been exposed to the patient.

Jambojet said it would continue providing updates as they become available.
