Kenya Airways Confirms Passenger’s Death After Medical Emergency on Flight to Lagos

Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced the death of a passenger who was on its flight from Nairobi to Nigeria after having a medical emergency on board.

According to a statement dated October 7, 2026, KQ says that the passenger experienced a medical emergency approximately twenty minutes before the flight landed in Lagos, Nigeria.

“Kenya Airways PLC (“KQ”) confirms that on Tuesday, 06 October 2026, our flight from Nairobi to Lagos experienced a medical emergency on board at around 21:20 hrs local Nigerian time. One of our passengers was found to be unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before landing in Lagos,” said the statement.

According to the airline, the passenger was found unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before the flight was scheduled to land in Lagos.

Response And First Aid

The cabin crew responded to the situation by administering first aid to the passenger in line with their training and following the required emergency procedures.

The aircraft subsequently landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 9:41pm, where it was met by medical personnel.

However, upon further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had died.

“Upon landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 21:41 hrs, the aircraft was met by medical personnel, and upon further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away,” said KQ.

Condolence Messages

Kenya Airways did not disclose the identity of the deceased passenger or provide details regarding the cause of death.

In addition, KQ expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, while also apologising for any inconvenience that may have resulted from the incident.

“We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and apologise for any inconvenience this incident may have caused. We uphold and respect the privacy and dignity of all involved,” the statement said.

Kenya Airways says that they are also working on providing the necessary support that is needed while in close coordination with the family of the deceased.
