Kibabii University Suspends Learning, Orders Students to Vacate Campus

Kibabii University has suspended teaching and learning activities for the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year following student unrest at the institution.

In an internal memo dated Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the university said its Senate had resolved to suspend academic activities with immediate effect.

“The University Senate in its Special Meeting held today, Tuesday, 6th October 2026, resolved to suspend the 1st Semester 2026/2027 Academic Year activities following the student unrest with immediate effect,” read the memo.

The memo, issued by the Registrar, Academic Affairs, directed all students to vacate the university premises by 3 pm on October 6, 2026.

Students To Vacate Hostels

Further, the University directed students residing in its hostels to leave the accommodation facilities by 3 pm on October 6, 2026.

Students living within the neighbourhood of the university were also advised to seek alternative accommodation until teaching and learning activities resume.

However, the institution did not provide further details on the nature or cause of the student unrest in the memo.

The suspension is for the first semester academic activities for the 2026/2027 academic year, but the university did not indicate when the teaching and learning would resume.

Senate Meeting

Additionally, the decision was reached during a special Senate meeting held on Tuesday, October 6, according to the communication addressed to all students.

Furthermore, the university urged students to comply with the directive to vacate the institution and its hostels within the stipulated timeframe as indicated in the memo.

The development comes as universities across the country continue to deal with various student-related concerns, with institutions occasionally suspending academic activities in response to unrest or security concerns.

However, Kibabii University has not provided any further information on whether the suspension will affect examinations, academic calendars or other university programmes.
