The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of the brutal murder of an 18-year-old Form Four student in Molo, Nakuru County.

In a statement dated October 6, detectives said they arrested the suspect, identified as Walter Kipkoech, after tracing him to a hideout in Lagwenda village, Kuresoi North. Detectives said Kipkoech had gone into hiding shortly after the death of Joy Wangui.

“A murder suspect who went on the run after the brutal killing of a Form Four student in Molo has been arrested, following a sustained manhunt by detectives,” read part of the statement.

DCI said that Kipkoech was traced after detectives from Molo, working together with officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) at the Regional Criminal Investigations Headquarters in the Rift Valley, conducted a sustained manhunt after he went missing

How Joy Wangui’s Body Was Discovered

According to the DCI, Wangui’s body was discovered inside a house in the Kiambaa area of Moto Location after her brother briefly left home for a nearby shop.

Upon returning, he reportedly found his sister lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, with her head severed from her body.

“Her brother, who had briefly left home for a nearby shop, returned to a horrifying scene: his sister lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, her head severed from the body,” read part of the statement.

DCI Pursue Relationship Dispute as Possible Motive

Meanwhile, detectives noted that preliminary investigations established that Kipkoech was the deceased’s boyfriend, and detectives are pursuing a possible relationship dispute as a line of inquiry into the motive behind the killing.

At the time of his arrest, Kipkoech was reportedly wearing a blood-stained boxer, a white T-shirt bearing the deceased’s name at the hem, and black jeans with visible dry blood stains.

Kipkoech was escorted to Molo Police Station, where he is undergoing processing pending arraignment.
