There have been speculations that former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua visited Opoda Farm to pay his last respects to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

However, Gachagua has dismissed these rumors by revealing that he has been in Nairobi since the morning and not in Siaya as claimed by a section of social media users.

In a statement on his social media pages, Gachagua confirmed that he attended a Church service at the House of Grace Church in Nairobi.

“Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” Gachagua wrote on Facebook.

“My Family and I, today, joined the Christian faithful of the House of Grace Church, Nairobi, for Church service.  It is always a blessing to be in the house of the Lord. God Bless Kenya,” he added.

Many had believed Gachagua would make his way to Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County, to visit the late leader’s home and pay his respects.

Earlier in the week,Seth Kanga,Kisumu Deputy Chairperson,on behalf of ODM,gave a stern warning to Gachagua,”We heard that Gachagua and his team plan to visit the home of our party leader, the late Raila Odinga,we are urging him to please not step in Bondo.”

The warning was preceded by the Nyeri Governor’s Mutahi Kahiga remarks that the ODM described as,”divisive, insensitive and deeply insulting” in the light of the national mourning period.

For now, the trip to Opoda Farm appears not to have taken place, as Gachagua’s social media posts and reports from journalists placed him in Nairobi throughout the day.

Whether he plans to visit the Odinga family at a later date remains unclear.
