Suspect Arrested by DCI For Murder of University Student

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a man following the gruesome murder of a University student.

Nicholas Mutia, a 34-year-old man, has been linked with the murder after investigations by detectives.

Jane Atilia Quedeya, a student of the University of Nairobi (UoN), Kikuyu Campus, was murdered and his body dumped in the forest.

After being missing for a while, the report concerning her whereabouts was registered at Kikuyu Police Station on October 13.

After a few days of searching for her, the remains of Atila were found dumped in a thicket at Kefri Muguga Forest on October 17, 2025.

According to DCI, the forensic fingerprint identification analysis that was conducted together with the National Registration Bureau identified the body.

“The decomposed body of Atila, whose missing report was registered at Kikuyu Police Station on October 13, was found dumped in a thicket at Kefri Muguga Forest on October 17, 2025. Forensic fingerprint identification analysis conducted in liaison with the National Registration Bureau positively identified the body,” said DCI.

The DCI added, “Preliminary investigations point that moments before her disappearance, Atila was in the company of her estranged boyfriend Mutua.”

Nicholas was arrested and arraigned before the Kikuyu law courts on October 25, 2025.

Upon hearing his case, the court ordered Mutia to be barred for the next 21 days to pave the way for further investigations.

The miscellaneous application matter is set for mention on November 13.

DCI Arrests Kisumu Robber

These latest developments come after DCI reportedly nabbed a suspect who attacked a security guard in Kisumu and robbed him.

The detective stated that the suspect robbed a security guard of his mobile phone and rubber shoes at gunpoint before fleeing the scene.

They also recovered an AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine containing five rounds of ammunition from his possession.
