Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua was met with loud jeers and heckling from residents of Embakasi Central, Nairobi County, while attempting to drum up support for his newly formed Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Gachagua, who had visited the area to rally support for his party ahead of the 2027 elections, struggled to address the crowd as chants opposing his message filled the air.
In a bid to promote his political agenda, Gachagua led a chant of “Kasongo one term,” a slogan perceived to target President William Ruto.
However, the crowd quickly interrupted him with shouts of “two term,” signaling firm support for Ruto’s re-election bid and rejecting any talk of ending his tenure in 2027.
The unexpected reaction left the Deputy President visibly unsettled as the residents’ chants overpowered his address.

Gachagua also called on Embakasi Central residents to elect a Member of Parliament (MP) on a DCP ticket, but the suggestion was met with further resistance and heckling from the audience, with the crowd chanting “ODM” to signal Embakasi Central is still an ODM bedroom.
Attempts to calm the crowd proved futile as sections of the residents accused him of promoting divisive politics among Kenyans.

The confrontation highlighted growing political tensions amongst the political parties, with factions beginning to take shape ahead of the next general election.
While Gachagua has insisted that the DCP will provide a fresh political direction, Sunday’s incident in Embakasi reflected the challenges he faces in consolidating grassroots support amid loyalty to President Ruto and the UDA party.
