ODM National Governing Council (NGC) has approved the appointment of Siaya Senator DR. Oburu Oginga as the Party Leader of the party.

In a statement on Thursday, November 13, ODM said the NGC also approved Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as the Deputy Party Leaders.

Besides, the Council confirmed Turkana South MP Dr.Ariko Namoit and his Rarieda counterpart Dr.Otiende Amollo as Vice Chairpersons.

Kisumu Woman Rep Ruth Odinga and Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu had their appointments as Deputy Organizing Secretary and Secretary of Political Affairs, respectively.

“They assume office subject to ratification by the National Delegates Convention (NDC). Congratulations to the new leaders of ODM at 20 celebrations,” reads part of the statement.

Oburu Odinga Picked as Acting Party Leader

Oburu’s confirmation comes barely a month after he was appointed as the Acting Party Leader following the death of Raila Odinga.

ODM’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held a meeting on the morning of October 16^th and elected Oburu to succeed his brother.

“NEC has this morning met and unanimously endorsed the designation of Senator of Siaya County, Dr.Oburu Oginga, as the Acting Party Leader. This appointment takes effect immediately,” ODM said.

With the NGC’s confirmation, Oburu Oginga will lead ODM ahead of the 2027 election, succeeding Raila, who has headed the party for the past 20 years.

Raila Odinga died on 15 October 2025 at the age of 80 while in India receiving medical treatment.

He was buried on October 19 at Kang’s ka Jaraamogi, Siaya County, with full military honours including a gun salute.
