President William Ruto has revealed how ODM party leader Raila Odinga contributed to the formation of the broad-based government.

Speaking during the ODM’s Founders Dinner, Ruto said late Raila Odinga confided in Oburu before making most of his political decisions.

He stated that Oburu has the capacity to lead the ODM Party since Raila was not only his brother, but also his close friend.

“Mr. Party leader, Oburu Odinga, this great party has given you the honor to steer its affairs. We can only wish you well and God’s speed and grace that where your brother and our friend, Raila Odinga, has left this party, I know for sure that you were not only his brother but his friend and confidant,” Ruto said.

He recalled how Raila asked him to reach out to Oburu Oginga during their discussions regarding the formation of a broad-based government.

Oburu Oginga List of Cabinet Positions

Ruto jokingly mentioned that it is Oburu Oginga who provided the lists of the Cabinet positions that should be given to the ODM Party.

“I say because on every matter that I discussed with Raila, if there was to be a second person, it would be Oburu Odinga. I remember when we were discussing this broad-based arrangement, he said the first person we must call is Oburu. It was Oburu who came and told us this is the list of ministries we are considering. It was a fairly long list,” he said.

Leading ODM Party

He asked Oburu Oginga to stand for the ideals and beliefs of his late brother to ensure the success of the ODM Party.

“With the same confidence your brother had and the same friendship you carried through with him, it is my hope and wish that you will not let him down. That you will stand up for what he stood for, match up to his vision, and work for this party like he did,” Ruto added.
