Teacher Dies at Examination Marking Center

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the death of an examiner at the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KISEA) marking centre.

Nicodemus Mutua Mutukutu passed away on November 24, 2025, at Machakos Girls High School while on duty.

“It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of one of our examiners for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KISEA). Mr. Nicodemus Mutua Mutuku passed away this morning at Machakos Girls High School, where he was a team leader in the Creative Arts and Sports paper,” read part notice.

The marking exercise of KISEA began on November 7th, 2025, and Mutuku had been actively and diligently performing his duties as a team leader since then.

KNEC Acknowledges Mutuku’ Work

Mutuku was a teacher at Nduluni Junior School in Makindu Constituency, Makueni County.

He also served as the examiner with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) under the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) before the transition to Competence-Based Education (CBE).

According to KNEC, Mutuku performed his duties diligently due to his experience in the sector.

“Until his demise, Mr. Mutuku was a dedicated teacher at Nduluni Junior School in Makindu Sub-County, Makueni County. Before the transition to the Competency-Based Education (CBE), he served as an examiner with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) of the now-defunct Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination for many years. He was an experienced, diligent teacher and we have, indeed, lost a gem,” read part notice.

KNEC Sends A Message of Condolences to Mutuku’s Fraternity

The council acknowledged and appreciated Mutuku’s work and the extended sympathies and condolences to family, friends, and fellow examiners of Mutua.

“We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mr. Mutuku’s family, friends, loved ones and fellow examiners,” KNEC stated.
