Kenya is set to make sporting history as it hosts the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Division 2- Nairobi Leg at Nyayo National Stadium on February 14th and 15th, 2026.
According to a notice shared by CS Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya on February 12, the two-day tournament will see 12 elite international teams compete, cementing Kenya’s position as a rising powerhouse in global rugby.
“This is a historic milestone that elevates Kenya’s global sporting profile and affirms our growing stature as a premier destination for international sports,” said Hon. Salim Mvurya, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy & Sports.
Kenya now becomes the second country in Africa to host an event of this magnitude, showcasing the nation’s ability to deliver world-class tournaments, nurture elite talent, and promote sports tourism.
The tournament will feature 12 international teams-six men’s sides and six women’s sides from 11 countries.
Women’s category: Kenya, Brazil, South Africa, China, Argentina, and Spain

Men’s category: Kenya, Germany, USA, Uruguay, Canada, and Belgium
“This exceptional lineup reflects the tournament’s international prestige,” CS Mvurya added, highlighting the significance of the event for Kenya’s international sporting reputation.
Kenya’s national rugby teams, the Kenya Sevens Shujaa and the Kenya Lionesses, are ready to compete with passion and pride.

Both teams boast a remarkable legacy of multiple Africa Sevens titles and consistent podium finishes on the World Rugby Sevens Series, achievements that put Kenya ahead as a continental champion and rising global rugby powerhouse.
“Let us come out in our numbers, in true Kenyan style, and cheer on our heroes as they once again rise to the occasion and redefine history on the global stage,” CS Mvurya urged.
