9 Suspects Arrested as Police Seize Bhang and Phones

Share

Police in Nakuru County have arrested nine suspects following an intelligence-led operation targeting individuals believed to be involved in mobile phone theft and the illegal trade of stolen devices.

According to the National Police Service, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation carried out on Monday in Shoppers Paradise and the Kaptembwa Sokoni area.

Police said the operation followed intelligence reports linking several individuals in the area to the sale and distribution of stolen mobile phones.

Officers moved in to disrupt the suspected network and recover the devices before they could be circulated in the market.

During the raid, the nine suspects were found with several assorted mobile phones and electronic equipment believed to be used to alter device identification numbers.

Investigators recovered flashing cables, specialised software devices, and other accessories suspected to facilitate the illegal changing of mobile phone IMEI numbers — a process commonly used by criminals to disguise stolen phones and make them difficult to trace.

In addition to the electronic equipment, officers recovered 16 rolls of bhang from the suspects during the operation.

Police say they will maintain heightened surveillance and intelligence gathering to dismantle criminal networks involved in phone theft and protect members of the public from similar incidents.

“The operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement to disrupt networks that profit from petty crime and to safeguard members of the public from its consequences. Through continued intelligence gathering, coordinated enforcement efforts, and community cooperation, the National Police Service remains focused on preventing such crimes and ensuring that those who engage in them are brought to book,” NPS said.
