Safaricom’s Ziidi Fund Wins Global Fintech Award at Mobile World Congress 2026

Safaricom has grabbed a major global award as M-Pesa marks its 19th anniversary.

This recognition was announced during the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) held at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, where Safaricom’s digital investment platform (Ziidi Money Market Fund) received the Best Fintech and Digital Commerce Innovation Award.

The platform was selected from a global shortlist of five finalists, with judges recognising its role in expanding access to investment opportunities through mobile technology.

The solution enables users to move from savings to investing within the M-PESA ecosystem, making it easier for more Kenyans to participate in capital markets using their mobile phones.

Speaking after the win, Safaricom’s Chief Corporate and External Affairs, Stephen Chege, described the recognition as a major milestone for both the company and Kenya’s digital finance sector.

As we mark 19 years of M-PESA, this milestone underscores our journey from enabling simple money transfers to providing a comprehensive digital financial ecosystem that supports savings, credit, payments, and now investments,” said Chege.

The leading telecommunications firm stated that as it advances toward its ambition of becoming Africa’s leading purpose-led technology company by 2030, it remains committed to innovating and expanding its digital financial services, having evolved beyond payments into a comprehensive ecosystem that enables individuals and businesses to participate fully and confidently in the digital economy.

About the Awards

The Global Mobile (GLOMO) Awards are presented annually during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and recognise developments in the mobile and digital technology sector.

Safaricom has previously received GLOMO awards, including recognition for the M-PESA Super App and the BLAZE DigiTruck in 2022, as well as earlier awards linked to DigiFarm and other mobile industry initiatives.

About Ziidi Money Market Fund

The investment platform allows users to move funds from savings into investment products within the M-PESA ecosystem.

By integrating investment services into the mobile money platform, the system aims to make it easier for users to access investment options.

Huawei was involved as a technology partner in the development of the platform, providing digital infrastructure that supports real-time transaction processing, security features and the rollout of additional financial products.
