Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said he will move to court to block the proposed degazettement of Capitol Hill Police Station, warning it would compromise security in Upper Hill and instructing his lawyers to file an urgent petition under relevant constitutional provisions.
“As a resident of Upper Hill, and pursuant to the Constitution, I have instructed my lawyers to move to court with urgency to challenge and block the proposed degazettement of Capitol Hill Police Station,” Sonko said. “We cannot and will not allow the security of Upper Hill to be compromised.”
Additionally, he said Upper Hill is home to international hotels including Radisson Blu, Pan Afric, and Silver Springs Mercure (formerly Crowne Plaza).
He added that the area hosts key government offices such as the Teachers Service Commission, NTSA, the National Library, the National Lands Commission, and the ministries of Lands, Transport, Water, and Health headquarters.
Sonko further noted that Upper Hill also houses embassies, including the Japanese Embassy and the Tanzania Embassy, which is under construction.
He said the area contains major religious institutions such as Don Bosco Church, All Saints Cathedral, CITAM Valley Road, and the Upper Hill Mosque.
He added that it also has educational institutions, including Loreto Convent Valley Road, Upper Hill School, and Upper Hill Nursery.

Sonko stated that Upper Hill is home to major landmarks such as Britam Tower, KCB Towers, Geo Maps Centre, the 88 Iconic Building, NSSF offices, and other commercial hubs.
He said the area is also served by critical amenities, including major petrol stations, hospitals, supermarkets, and funeral homes such as Lee Funeral Home, Montezuma Monalisa, Umash, and City Mortuary.
“Weakening security in such a strategic area is not just reckless—it is a grave risk to lives, critical institutions, and the economic stability of our country,” Sonko said.

Furthermore, the former Governor said Capital Hill Police Station holds crucial records, including OB No. 17/26/07/2025, which he relies on in his ongoing case (ACC No. 1 of 2020).
He stated that the OCS, Chief Inspector Tuska Opondo, has already testified, and more officers are expected to testify, and there is a real possibility that the court may need to visit the station physically.
Additionally, Sonko said there is another matter in which he is the complainant, reported vide OB No. 02/17/01/2026, currently under investigation at the same station.
“Any attempt to remove or weaken this vital security installation is a direct threat to justice, public safety, and the rule of law. We must stand firm. We must protect our people. We must defend our institutions. And we must do so at all costs,” he said.
