Kenya Eyes Global Stage as It Scouts Diaspora for Winter Sports Talent

Share

The Kenya High Commission in Maputo has called on Kenyans living in Mozambique to take part in a new talent identification programme for winter sports.

The initiative targets athletes skilled in skiing, figure skating, and ice skating as Kenya seeks to widen its presence in global winter competitions.

The mission said it will coordinate the exercise with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) and relevant diplomatic offices. Through this effort, Kenya aims to identify and support talented athletes in the diaspora who can represent the country in future Olympic events.

“The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) is mandated with organizing and managing participation of Kenya at the Olympic Games, including athlete selection and preparation,” the High Commission stated.

NOCK Expands Search to Winter Sports

The High Commission noted that NOCK now focuses on strengthening its athlete identification process beyond traditional sports. In addition, the committee aims to tap into winter sports talent among Kenyans living abroad, where training opportunities in such disciplines are more available.
