The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued fresh updates regarding the registration status of candidates for the 2026 national examinations and assessments.

In a statement dated Friday, April 17, 2026, the examination body announced that parents and guardians can now confirm their children’s registration details for the 2026 KCSE, KJSEA and KPSEA.

KNEC said the verification process can be done through an SMS platform, where parents are required to send the candidate’s assessment number or index number to 20076.

Parents and guardians have been urged to carefully check key information, including the spelling and order of names, gender, date of birth, registered school, and citizenship status.

For KPSEA and KJSEA candidates, KNEC also stressed the need to confirm subject entries, particularly the choice between Kiswahili and Kenya Sign Language (KSL), as well as Religious Education options such as KICRE, IRE or HRE. KCSE candidates are required to verify their optional subjects.

KNEC has set April 30, 2026, as the deadline for confirming details, and any errors should be reported to school heads before then.

“In case of any queries, please contact your Head of Institution,” the council advised.

Examination Timetable and Guidelines

Earlier in February 2026, the council released guidelines and timetables for the 2026 national examinations. According to KNEC, all KCSE examination papers will begin at 8:00 a.m. for morning sessions and 2:00 p.m. for afternoon sessions, with no extra time allowed unless stated on the paper.

The exams will start with a rehearsal on October 16, 2026, and end on November 20, 2026.

For KJSEA, morning papers will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the assessment scheduled to run from a rehearsal on October 23, 2026, to October 30, 2026.

KPSEA assessments will also follow strict timing guidelines, with no extra time permitted. The exams will begin with a rehearsal on October 23, 2026, and conclude on October 28, 2026.

Candidates are required to arrive at the examination room at least 15 minutes before the start time, undergo the necessary checks and ensure they have the correct question papers.

They are also advised to carefully read all instructions, write their details correctly, and use only approved writing materials such as blue or black ink, with pencils reserved for diagrams.

Candidates must also manage their time well, avoid spending too long on one question, and ensure all answers are properly numbered.

Further, candidates have been warned that late arrival may only be allowed under exceptional circumstances, and any form of examination irregularity or misconduct will attract penalties.

Candidates are required to stop writing immediately when instructed and hand over their scripts to the invigilator.
