President William Ruto is set to leave the country on Sunday, April 19, for a three-day State Visit to Italy at the invitation of Sergio Mattarella.
In a statement, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi said the three-day State visit will enhance trade, investment, and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Ruto will be hosted in Rome by his Italian counterpart, President Sergio Mattarella, while also holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as Kenya presses ahead for closer economic engagement with Europe.
Discussions are expected to center on boosting trade volumes, attracting investment, boost development projects, as well as forge strategic partnerships between Nairobi and Rome.
Kenya will secure fresh funding agreements and new business ventures, as well as partnerships with members across various sectors, including health, agriculture, clean energy, and infrastructure.
During the visit, the President will also seek up to Ksh1 billion for the expansion of Nyamira County Hospital, an effort seen by Kenya to improve health facilities through international assistance.
Ruto will start his official visit to Rome with a laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, before meeting Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace.
“The engagements will focus on strengthening Kenya–Italy cooperation, aligning development priorities, and unlocking new opportunities in trade, investment, and strategic partnerships,” Mudavadi said.
Bilateral talks between President William Ruto and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will focus on trade, immigration, food security, regional peace, and climate change.
The President will also deliver a speech at the Kenya–Italy Business Forum, where he will promote Kenya as an attractive investment hub in East Africa.
The government expects the engagement to attract new investment into sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, clean energy, and agriculture.

“Key outcomes include the mobilisation of financing for priority projects, the signing of new Memoranda of Understanding, and the acceleration of existing bilateral agreements, all aimed at delivering tangible benefits for Kenyans,” he said.

Authorities say the visit will likely open up new markets for Kenyan produce and foster long-term partnerships with Italy, a major economic force in Europe.
“The visit will also promote Kenyan exports and position the country as an attractive destination for Italian investment across key sectors,” Mudavadi added.
