Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has broken his silence on claims linking him to an alleged Ksh20 billion land grab, following a report published by the Daily Nation on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
In a press statement issued on the same day, Murkomen dismissed the allegations carried under the headline “CS, two MPs Linked to Ksh20bn Land Grab,” terming the report as misleading and founded on “rumour, conjecture and wild allegations.”
“The Cabinet Secretary does not have an iota of personal interest in the property. In fact, he does not know the purported land, its location, or the presence of a land dispute,” the statement read.
The Interior Ministry further clarified that Murkomen does not engage in operational police duties, including patrols, as alleged in the petition cited by the publication.
It added that while police officers may handle land-related disputes as part of their mandate, this does not imply involvement or interest by the Cabinet Secretary.
Murkomen also stressed that he does not direct day-to-day police operations, noting that his role is limited to issuing general policy guidelines through the Inspector General of Police.
At the same time, the CS called on investigative agencies, including the police, to speed up investigations into the matter and safeguard the interests of legitimate landowners.

The response follows a report by the Daily Nation linking the Interior CS alongside Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia to an alleged land dispute involving the 300-acre Kasarani Coffee Farm in Kiambu County, valued at approximately Ksh 20 billion.
According to court documents cited in the report, petitioners Daniel Mwangi Mbugua and his daughter Wanjiru Mwangi moved to the High Court seeking investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) into the three leaders over alleged land grabbing and protection of individuals said to have invaded the property.
The petitioners further claimed that security officers had been deployed on the disputed land and alleged interference by senior government officials.

They also raised concerns over their safety, citing an attempted attack and alleged threats on their lives.
However, in his response, Murkomen clearly stated that he has no connection to the disputed property or any of the activities related to it.
The case is scheduled for mention on May 19, 2026, at the High Court in Kiambu.
