Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds have caused widespread disruption in parts of Mombasa and Kwale counties.
According to a report by the Kenya Red Cross dated April 23, 2026, in Mombasa County, at least 103 households have been affected, with nine people displaced across Jomvu, Kisauni, Changamwe, and Likoni sub-counties.
This has affected many people, damaged their homes, and more so interrupted access to key health facilities as response teams continue assessments.
Several homes in Freretown were also damaged after strong winds blew off roofs, while flooding was reported in low-lying residential areas.
Flash floods were also reported in Nyali, further disrupting movement in the affected neighbourhoods.
Access to healthcare services was temporarily affected after floodwaters caused Jomvu Model Hospital and Tudor Sub-County Health Facility to be inaccessible.
Red Cross says emergency assessments remain ongoing as county disaster response teams continue monitoring the situation across affected areas.

On the other hand, search efforts are ongoing for a boda boda rider who was swept away while he was attempting to cross a flooded bridge near Shimba Hills.
Kenya Red Cross says rescue teams have been deployed to the area as the operations continue.
These incidents come after a heavy rainfall advisory was issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Warning of intensified rainfall across coastal counties between April 22 and April 27, with the likelihood of flooding in low-lying and vulnerable areas.
Kenya Met indicated that some coastal areas could receive significant rainfall within short periods, increasing the risk of flash floods, strong winds, and disruption to transport and essential services.
