A high-level consultative meeting between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has produced a new coordination structure aimed at strengthening governance cooperation.
President William Ruto and ODM leader Oburu Oginga chaired the talks at State House, Nairobi, on April 23, 2026.
The meeting brought together top organs from both parties, including the UDA Steering Committee and the ODM Central Management Committee. Leaders used the session to align priorities and deepen structured political engagement.
“The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and exploring areas of mutual interest between the two parties,” the statement read.
The leaders agreed to form a Broad-Based Management Committee to coordinate cooperation between the executive and legislature.
The committee will bring together three main groups: party leadership, selected Cabinet Secretaries, and parliamentary leaders from both the majority and minority sides.
The statement explained that the committee will help align government work across institutions. It will also ensure smoother coordination between political parties and state organs.

The committee will focus on streamlining government operations. It will also guide how the executive and Parliament work together on national priorities.
“Its main role will be to coordinate and synchronize legislative and executive agendas to ensure efficiency and improved service delivery,” the statement stated.
Leaders believe this framework will reduce delays in policy implementation and strengthen accountability across government institutions.

Beyond coordination, the talks pointed to a broader political direction.
“These ongoing engagements are intended to build consensus on priority issues and lay the foundation for a formal coalition of equals between UDA and ODM,” the statement noted.
This signals a possible long-term political alignment between the two parties.
Both parties agreed to maintain regular consultations through their respective chairpersons. They said this will help reduce political friction and promote consensus on national priorities.
The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and inclusivity. They emphasized unity as a key driver of development and stability.
The new Broad-Based Management Committee marks a major step in formalizing cooperation between UDA and ODM. As both sides deepen engagement, the structure sets the tone for closer coordination in governance and possible political realignment in the future.
