6 Government Officials Charged Over Alleged Ksh50 Million Land Deal

Share
DPP has secured a death sentence for a man who murdered his son, wife and two others, following a court ruling on the case.

Six Nakuru County officials have been charged over an alleged irregular Ksh 50 million land purchase for a planned health centre in Umoja Lanet Ward, Bahati Sub-County.

Five of the accused appeared in court on Tuesday, August 25, and pleaded not guilty to 10 charges, while one is yet to take a plea.

Prosecutors allege that the officials were involved in a procurement process that breached requirements governing the use of public funds.

Among the charges are conspiracy to commit an economic crime, engaging in a project without prior planning, willful failure to comply with procurement laws, forgery and abuse of office.

Land purchase at centre of case

According to the charges, the alleged offences took place between October 2019 and October 2020 during the procurement of land for the proposed health facility.

Investigators allege that officials initiated the project without prior planning and failed to meet key procurement requirements.

Court papers further indicate that officials proceeded without properly confirming the availability of funds for the purchase, raising questions about how they handled the Ksh 50 million transaction.
