The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal traffic accident that killed Hon. Cyrus Jirongo on the evening of December 13, 2025, along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway in the Karai area.
According to the report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the collision resulted in a head-on impact that reportedly pushed the deceased’s vehicle about 25 meters from the point of impact, with the PSV bus eventually coming to a stop approximately 50 meters away.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the accident involved Hon. Jirongo’s motor vehicle, registration number KCU 305U, and a public service vehicle (PSV) bus, registration number KCU 576A, belonging to Climax Company Ltd. The collision occurred at approximately 02:19 A.M., resulting in a head-on impact that pushed the deceased’s vehicle about 25 metres from the point of impact, while the PSV bus came to a stop approximately 50 metres away,” DCI report said.

In line with its mandate, the DCI deployed a combined team of homicide detectives and forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory to visit the scene, conduct preliminary examinations, and secure key exhibits.
During scene documentation, detectives recovered CCTV footage from Eagol Petrol Station, which is subject to initial review and analysis.

Detectives have interrogated the PSV driver, Tyrus Kamau Githinji, who had earlier recorded a statement at the Naivasha Traffic Base. Githinji is currently out on cash bail pending further investigations into the offense of causing death by dangerous driving.
He is required to report to the Naivasha Traffic Base on December 22, 2025, for further police action.

Additionally, detectives have interviewed the petrol station’s night guard and fuel attendant, both of whom have provided their personal accounts of the events that occurred on the fateful night.
