The new Infotrak polls revealed that the majority of Kenyans will not celebrate Christmas as in previous years.
The polls said this is due to the economic hardship that is currently experienced in the country.
According to a survey conducted across the country, 45% of respondents plan to celebrate the Christmas holiday this year, which is an increase from 40% last year.
At the same time, 55% of Kenyans said they will not mark Christmas Eve as they usually do, showing the continued hurdle on household finances.
78% of Kenyans said the lack of money during this festive season is a key factor.
Meanwhile, 16% highlighted that Christmas lost its credibility and so they lost interest in it, while 11% said they would be working on that period.
Where Financial Challenge Has Dominated
Residents of Nairobi and Western Kenya have been majorly affected with 87% by the lack of income, therefore, they could not afford to celebrate.
45% who will attend celebrations will mainly focus more on family-centered gatherings.

The polls highlighted that 53% plan to spend time with family members, 31% will attend church services and 20% expect to spend time with friends.
Festive activities are drastically declining this year, with figures dropping from 63% in 2024 to 53% currently and social gatherings with friends are also dropping.
At the regional level, Nairobi tops with 21%, with residents likely to go on holiday, while the Coast tops the list for partying.

According to researchers, findings reflect the broader national mood, where high living costs continue to weigh on households.
Many households seem to be choosing modest celebrations instead of abandoning them altogether, placing greater emphasis on faith and togetherness while minimizing expenses.
Rather than cancel festivities completely, numerous families are embracing simpler observances that prioritize family values and spiritual reflection amid tighter budgets.
