Kenya Under-20 captain Amos Wanjala is set to join Valencia CF, a top-flight Spanish club competing in La Liga, one of Europe’s premier leagues.
The Under-20 captain has been offered a two-year deal by the Spanish side and is expected to be officially unveiled next week, following a free transfer from Athletic Club Torrellano.
The former St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale captain, currently playing for Athletic Torrellano in Spain’s Segunda B, has also attracted interest from La Liga clubs Villarreal CF and Elche CF.
Following the announcement of his move, Kenyans, including sports journalists, fans, and public figures, sent congratulatory messages.
Veteran sports journalist Mike Okinyi said:
“Amos Wanjala to Valencia in Spanish La Liga – done deal. All agreed and set, he will sign next week. Well done @Amoswanjala_16 cc @AbabuNamwamba.”
A Kenyan fan named Mandela added:
“Product of Talanta Hela… congratulations to him.”

Amos Wanjala, who plays as a defender, is a product of the Talanta Hela initiative, a program that focused on identifying, developing, and providing international exposure for Kenyan football talent.
The program was introduced by Ababu Namwamba when he was the then Cabinet Secretary for Sports and Youth Economy.
Other players who have emerged through the program include Aldrine Kibet, who signed a four-year deal with Spanish top-flight club RC Celta Vigo in July 2025; Luis Ingavi, a striker who graduated from Montverde Academy in the USA before joining a semi-professional team in Michigan; Austine Odongo, now at Shabana FC and called up for CHAN preparations.
William Gitama, who is currently a Bandari FC player, who was the joint top scorer for Talanta Hela in Spain and earned a call-up to the senior Harambee Stars for the COSAFA Cup; and Alvin Kasavuli, who secured a place at Nastic Soccer Academy in Tarragona, Spain.
Valencia Club de Fútbol, commonly known as Valencia CF, is a historic Spanish football club founded in 1919 and based in the city of Valencia. The team plays in La Liga, Spain’s top professional league, and hosts its home matches at the Mestalla Stadium, one of the country’s iconic football venues.

Valencia has won six La Liga titles in its history and has a strong tradition in domestic and European competitions.
In the ongoing 2025–26 La Liga campaign, Valencia has had a challenging season and is currently positioned 18th on the table with 17 points, inside the relegation zone.
