Ruto Congratulates Museveni on Re-Election Victory

President William Ruto has formally congratulated Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following his re-election victory in Uganda’s just concluded General Election.

In an official congratulatory message dated January 18, 2026, President Ruto conveyed Kenya’s goodwill, underscoring the longstanding diplomatic, political and economic ties between the two neighbouring countries.

In the message addressed to President Museveni in Kampala, President Ruto said the re-election outcome reflected the confidence Ugandans have placed in Museveni’s leadership.

He noted that the declaration of the results on the evening of January 17, 2026, marked a significant democratic milestone for Uganda and reaffirmed Kenya’s respect for the sovereign choice of the Ugandan people.

“Following the formal pronouncement of your re-election as the President of the Republic of Uganda last evening, 17 January, 2026, I convey, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Kenya and on my own behalf, warm congratulations and best wishes to Your Excellency and to the great people of Uganda,” President Ruto stated.

The Kenyan Head of State further praised the conduct of the election, describing it as competitive and peaceful, and commended all stakeholders involved in the electoral process.

Confidence in Leadership and Democratic Process

President Ruto observed that Museveni’s victory demonstrated public trust in his leadership and in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

“Your decisive victory at the just concluded competitive General Election reflects the trust that the people of the Republic of Uganda have in your personal leadership and the confidence enjoyed by the NRM party,” he said.

He added that the renewed mandate would strengthen Museveni’s resolve to advance Uganda’s development agenda.

“I am certain your re-election reinvigorates Your Excellency’s resolve to accelerate the transformation of your country,” the message read.

Ruto Commends Peaceful Elections

The Kenyan President also applauded Ugandans for conducting the election peacefully, describing it as a sign of democratic maturity.

“For undertaking a peaceful election, I sincerely commend the people of Uganda and all stakeholders in the electoral process, which attests to the democratic maturity of Uganda,” Ruto noted.

Commitment to Strong Bilateral Relations

Emphasising the close historical and fraternal ties between Kenya and Uganda, President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to work closely with Museveni’s government.

“Our two countries enjoy deep fraternal bonds which will no doubt benefit from your unwavering commitment,” he said.
