Stanbic Announces Leadership Changes as Joshua Oigara Takes Over as Director

The Board of Directors of Stanbic Holdings Plc has announced leadership changes at the company.

In a notice dated Thursday, February 12, 2026, the Board confirmed the retirement of Patrick Mweheire as Chief Executive and Director, effective February 28, 2026.

“The Board of Directors of Stanbic Holdings Plc (‘the Company’) announces the retirement of Mr Patrick Mweheire as Chief Executive and Director of the Company, effective 28 February 2026,” read part of the notice.

Stanbic Confirms Retirement of Patrick Mweheire as Chief Executive and Director

The Board said Mweheire will continue serving in a senior role within the Standard Bank Group.

According to Standard Bank Group, Mweheire, who was appointed Chief Executive on March 3, 2020, provided decisive leadership in executing the company’s strategic priorities.

During his tenure, Stanbic achieved consistent growth and strengthened its position within the Group. The Board credited him with helping build Stanbic Kenya into a strong and competitive franchise.

The Board thanked Mweheire for his exemplary leadership and wished him success in his continued role within the Group.

Joshua Oigara Takes Over as Director

At the same time, the Board announced the appointment of Dr. Joshua Oigara as Chief Executive and Director of Stanbic Holdings Plc, effective March 1, 2026. He will succeed Mweheire.

Standard Bank Group said Oigara’s appointment is subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

Dr Oigara currently serves as Standard Bank’s Regional Chief Executive for East Africa, a role he has held since September 2025. He oversees operations in six countries: Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.

The Board clarified that Oigara will assume the role of Chief Executive of Stanbic Holdings Plc while continuing with his regional responsibilities.

Previously, Dr. Oigara served as Chief Executive Officer of a regional bank in East Africa. The Board said he brings extensive knowledge of the regional market and a strong track record in institutional transformation.

Dr. Oigara holds an MBA with Distinction in International Business Management from Edith Cowan University, Australia, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi.

He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and a member of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). He also completed the Advanced Management Programme at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The Board expressed confidence that Oigara’s experience in banking transformation, regional expansion, and financial inclusion will guide the company into its next phase of growth.
