Ruto Breaks Silence Following UDA’s Clean Sweep in By-Elections

President William Ruto has broken his silence after defeating the united opposition in the recently concluded by-elections.

In a statement dated Friday, February 27, 2026, the Head of State thanked residents of the constituencies where the by-elections were held for electing UDA candidates.

“Thank you Isiolo South, West Kabras, Mumiji, and Evurore, for standing firmly with the United Democratic Alliance in yesterday’s by-elections,” read part of the statement.

The President stated that the victory in the four by-elections demonstrates the growing trust and support of Kenyans in the party’s agenda.

“We are firmly on course to building a solid national political party whose vision goes beyond generations as we move Kenya to the first world,” he said.

He further stressed that these wins are a clear mandate for the party’s commitment to development, good governance, and delivering tangible results to all citizens.

“Congratulations to Tubi Mohammed (Isiolo South Constituency), Elphas Kainanga Shalakha (West Kabras Ward), Duncan Muratia Nyaga (Evurore Ward), and Peterson Njeru (Muminji Ward) for your victory and the confidence the people have shown in you,” he added.

Congratulatory Messages from Other Party Officials

Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki also congratulated the aspirants, saying the elections were a clean sweep for the UDA party.

“Congratulations to Tubi Mohamed for winning the Isiolo South MP seat, and to Muratia Nyaga, Njeru Njiru (Weche), and Eliphas Shalakha on your wins of the MCA seats for Evurore, Muminji, and Kabras West wards, respectively,” said Kindiki.

UDA Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecile Mbarire also praised the newly elected Members of the County Assembly, Duncan Muratia of Evurore Ward and Peterson Njeru of Muminji Ward.

She wished them well as they assume leadership responsibilities, stressing the importance of dedication, integrity, and commitment to improving the livelihoods of the residents they represent.

Governor Mbarire also expressed her anticipation of working with the two leaders to deliver development and fulfil promises for the people of Evurore and Muminji.

The February 26, 2026, by-elections saw the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) win all four contested seats, consolidating its dominance despite low voter turnout.

In Isiolo South, UDA’s Tubi Mohammed Tubi won decisively with 7,352 votes, defeating his sister Bina Tubi of the Jubilee Party, who garnered 634 votes. In Embu County, Duncan Muratia of Evurore Ward secured 7,853 votes, while Peterson Njeru of Muminji Ward won with 3,207 votes. In Kakamega County, Elphas Shalakha claimed West Kabras Ward with 3,317 votes, beating his closest rival from the Democratic Congress Party.
