Six Killed as Helicopter Bursts into Flames in Nandi

UPDATE: Six people killed after helicopter bursts into flames in Mosop, Nandi, County police boss Samuel Mukuusi confirms; identities of 4:45 pm accident victims yet to be confirmed.

Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno has been killed in a helicopter crash after the chopper burst into flames in Mosop, Nandi County.

Sources close to the investigation report that authorities have recovered a mobile phone and SIM card belonging to the MP at the crash scene. Reports also indicate that similar devices belonging to Amos Kipngetich Rotich, an officer with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), have been recovered.

Police are still working to identify the remaining four occupants of the ill-fated helicopter.

Nandi Helicopter Accident

A helicopter crashed and burst into flames in Chepkiep, Mosop Sub-county, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, with early reports indicating that it was carrying five passengers at the time of the crash.

Early reports indicate that the helicopter might have killed all passengers on board when it crashed.

Eyewitnesses have indicated possible casualties, although authorities have yet to issue an official confirmation.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, but images shared on social media show the helicopter fully engulfed in flames.

At the moment, reports from Nandi indicate the helicopter’s registration number is 5Y-DSB, owned by a company based at Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

Data available on Flightradar24 shows that the plane is an Airbus Helicopters H125.

Further reports show that the aircraft departed Nairobi at 11:02 a.m. on Saturday, but do not indicate when it landed at its destination.
