The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released its seven-day weather forecast for the period from March 3 to March 9, 2026, indicating increased rainfall intensity and spread across several parts of the country.
The outlook comes as Kenya transitions into the March-May long rains season, with rainfall expected to intensify in multiple regions.
According to the 7-day cumulative rainfall forecast map, moderate to heavy rainfall, with isolated heavy events, is likely over the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Coast, Western Kenya, as well as parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, including counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot, mornings are expected to experience rain in a few places.
Afternoons will be characterized by showers and thunderstorms in several areas, while nights will see showers in a few locations.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi and its environs, mornings are likely to experience light rains in a few places during the forecast period.

Afternoons are expected to have showers and thunderstorms in several areas, while nights will experience showers in several places.
Other counties within this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi.
In North-western Kenya, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings are expected to have rain in a few places.
Afternoons will experience showers and thunderstorms in a few areas, while nights will have showers in isolated locations.
In the North-eastern region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties, mornings will experience rain in a few places.

In the South-eastern Lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, mornings will be dominated by rain in a few places.

In the Coast region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties, as well as the Tana Delta, mornings will mostly experience a chance of showers in a few places.
However, sunny intervals are expected on some days during the forecast period.

Afternoons will have showers in a few areas, while nights will be mostly cloudy with occasional showers.
The 7-day average maximum temperature forecast shows daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C in the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
Some parts of North-eastern Kenya are likely to record temperatures above 35°C.
Meanwhile, minimum temperatures below 10°C are expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro, particularly in high-altitude zones.
Kenya Met has advised the public to stay updated with official weather information and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and during periods of thunderstorms.
