An autopsy conducted on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, has revealed the cause of death of Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament (MP) Johana Ng’eno and the other victims who perished in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on Saturday, February 28.
According to Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, who spoke to the media after the postmortem, all six victims died from multiple injuries, mainly affecting the chest, head, and spine.
“The bodies had varying levels of injuries, including head injuries, chest injuries, and spinal injuries. There were also varying degrees of burns. Some had more extensive burns than others, but they were identifiable. They died because of multiple injuries and burns sustained in the crash,” said Oduor.
Besides Ng’eno, the other victims of the Mosop crash in Nandi County were Amos Kimwetich Rotich, Robert Kipkoech Keter, Nicholas Kosgei, and Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono, as well as the pilot, retired Colonel George Were.
The autopsy comes as families of the victims prepare for burial ceremonies.
Ng’eno will be buried on Friday, March 6, 2026, at his rural home in Trans Mara, Narok County, following a requiem service and traditional rites.

Parliament observed a moment of silence in his honour, cancelled sittings to allow members to mourn, and leaders led by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula paid tribute to him, describing him as a gifted debater and committed leader.
“On behalf of the Parliamentary Service Commission, the National Assembly, and on my own behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and the people of Emurua Dikirr on this untimely loss that has robbed the nation of an astute leader,” said Wetangula.
President William Ruto announced that the government will cater to the funeral expenses of all the victims. He announced on Monday, March 2, 2026, while condoling with Ng’eno’s family at their home in Karen, Nairobi, where he described the late MP as a hardworking and progressive leader dedicated to serving his constituents.
He described the late MP as a hardworking leader who contributed significantly to his community and the nation, adding that he also helped his administration in spearheading the housing programme.

“Mr. Johana Ng’eno will have a special place in our housing programme. Fare thee well, my brother,’ said President Ruto.
The helicopter crashed on Saturday afternoon in the Chepkieb area, Mosop Sub-County, Nandi County, in a hilly and forested location near Chepkieb Forest. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
