Stanbic Bank Announces Abraham Ongenge as Acting CEO

Stanbic Bank has announced the appointment of Abraham Ongenge as the Acting Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Kenya Limited, effective March 1, 2026.

In an official announcement regarding the matter, Stanbic Bank declared that the leadership transition ensures that the bank is led by a seasoned banking expert with extensive experience from within the Standard Bank Group and the financial sector.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Abraham Ongenge as the Acting Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Kenya Limited, effective 1st March 2026, subject to regulatory approval,” Stanbic Bank declared in its official announcement regarding the matter.

According to Stanbic Bank, Mr. Ongenge is currently serving as the Head of Personal and Private Banking at Stanbic Bank Kenya, a position he has been in since November 2023.

Career Background and Leadership Experience

Mr. Ongenge has developed a distinguished career with the Stanbic Bank Group and has proven his skills in all financial and management positions.

“With a successful career spanning within the Standard Bank Group, Abraham has demonstrated his expertise and leadership across various roles,” the statement read.

The bank said Ongenge began his professional journey as a Financial Accountant before rising through the ranks to become Chief Finance and Value Officer.

“He began his journey as a Financial Accountant and progressively advanced to the position of Chief Finance and Value Officer,” Stanbic Bank stated.

Throughout his career, Ongenge has held key positions in several countries across the region, reflecting both his leadership capability and adaptability.

“Throughout his career, he has held key positions in Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda, showcasing his adaptability and proficiency in diverse environments,” the bank said.

Stanbic Bank also highlighted that Ongenge has previously served as a Finance Director in a local bank, further strengthening his experience in the financial sector.

“Additionally, Abraham has served as a Finance Director in a local bank, further enhancing his breadth of experience within the financial sector,” the statement added.

Academic Qualifications and Professional Credentials

The bank also pointed to Ongenge’s academic and professional credentials, noting that he holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University of Nairobi.

“Abraham holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with First Class Honors,” the statement said.

He is also a Certified Public Accountant in Kenya and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.

“He is a Certified Public Accountant in Kenya (CPA(K)) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK),” Stanbic Bank said.

In addition to his Kenyan certification, Ongenge also holds the designation of Certified Public Accountant in Uganda.

“Moreover, he holds the designation of Certified Public Accountant in Uganda (CPA(U)),” the statement noted.

Continued Professional Development

Stanbic Bank further highlighted Ongenge’s continued investment in professional growth and leadership development.

The bank stated that he has undertaken additional executive education programs at globally recognized institutions.

“Abraham has also invested in continuous learning and professional development, earning a certificate in Digital Strategies for Business from Columbia Business School,” the bank said.

He has also completed an Advanced Management Program offered jointly by Strathmore Business School and IESE Business School in Spain.

“Additionally, he completed the Advanced Management Program from Strathmore Business School and IESE School of Business Spain,” the statement added.
