Share

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has departed for Moscow Russia, for a series of high-level bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Kenya and Russia.

According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary dated March 15, 2026, the visit seeks to deepen cooperation in key sectors, including education, labour mobility, health, infrastructure, and energy.

The Kenyan government also aims to enhance diplomatic engagement and expand economic partnerships between the two countries.

Kenya acknowledged Russia’s continued support in advancing education through scholarship programs and boosting agricultural productivity through fertilizer assistance.

Speaking ahead of the visit, CS Mudavadi highlighted the trade potential between the two nations.

“There exists a great potential for the export of Kenyan coffee, tea, and floriculture to the Russian market, especially at a time of Middle East turbulence and beyond,” said Mudavadi.

The government believes strengthening trade with Russia could create new markets for Kenyan agricultural exports.

Meeting with Russian Foreign Minister

During the two-day visit, Mudavadi is expected to hold bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov.

He will also meet other Russian ministers responsible for education and labour matters.

In addition, the Prime Cabinet Secretary is scheduled to deliver a public lecture at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.

Addressing Concerns Over Kenyans in Russian Military

One of the key agenda items of the visit is addressing concerns surrounding Kenyans who may have been recruited into the Russian military, either voluntarily or through misleading recruitment offers.

The government says the talks will focus on diplomatic engagement with Russian authorities to prevent exploitation and false employment promises targeting Kenyan nationals.

Push for Protection and Repatriation of Kenyans

CS Mudavadi will also push for measures to safeguard Kenyans living, studying, and working in Russia, particularly those affected by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War.

The government is seeking cooperation to facilitate the safe repatriation of affected Kenyans.

Officials say the discussions are part of a broader coordinated government effort to ensure Kenyans abroad work in safe environments and live dignified lives away from home.
