The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has announced it will file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne following the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to award the AFCON 2025 title to Morocco.

In a statement, the FSF denounced the ruling as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable,” saying it casts a shadow over African football.

“The Senegalese Football Federation denounces this unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable decision, which casts a shadow over African football,” reads part of the statement.

“To defend its rights and the interests of Senegalese football, the Federation will initiate an appeal as soon as possible before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.”

CAF Awards AFCON 2025 to Morocco

The notification from CAF followed the March 17, 2026, decision by the CAF Appeals Committee regarding case DC23316, related to match number 52 between Senegal and Morocco in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025.

CAF’s Appeals Committee upheld the appeal by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), overturning a previous ruling by the CAF Disciplinary Committee.

The Appeals Committee cited that the Moroccan side’s right to be heard had not been respected during the initial proceedings.

“The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has today been notified of the decision rendered on March 17, 2026, by the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), in case DC23316. This procedure follows the complaint filed during match number 52 of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco 2025, between Senegal and Morocco,” FSF said.

“By this decision, the CAF Appeals Committee declared the appeal of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) admissible and accepted it. In doing so, the body overturned the decision rendered by the CAF Disciplinary Committee, on the grounds that the appellant’s right to be heard had not been respected during the initial proceedings,” the Federation added.
