The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory after heavy rainfall caused flooding at the Kipsonoi River Bridge in Mugeni, Bomet County.
The bridge, located between Sotik and Chebilat along the Kaplong–Kisii (B6) Road, has become unsafe for vehicles, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
According to KeNHA, water levels at the Mugeni bridge rose sharply due to heavy rain in upstream catchment areas.
The sudden surge has made crossing the bridge hazardous, raising concerns for both private and public transport users.
Authorities are urging drivers in the Mugeni area to stay alert and plan their journeys carefully.
Traffic officials have been deployed at the Mugeni bridge to guide motorists, while KeNHA continues to monitor the situation closely.
The authority confirmed that it will take immediate action if water levels rise further, aiming to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of road users.
KeNHA has recommended safer routes for drivers affected by the flooding. Motorists heading to Chebilat and Keroka should use the Kaplong–Sotik–Roret–Ikonge–Chebilat–Keroka route, while those traveling to Kisii can take the Kaplong–Sotik–Roret–Ikonge–Kisii route.
Both roads bypass the flooded Mugeni section and are fully paved, providing safer travel options.

“Motorists are strongly advised to exercise caution and strictly adhere to instructions issued by police officers and traffic marshals on site to ensure their safety,” KeNHA emphasized.
