The National Police Service has launched investigations following reports of a suspected mass grave at Makaburini Public Cemetery in Kericho County.
According to preliminary reports on March 21,2026, casual workers at the cemetery alerted authorities after three unidentified men allegedly arrived in a white Land Cruiser and dumped 14 bodies into a single grave.
The shocking claims have since drawn widespread concern among residents and the public.
In an official press statement, the police confirmed they had secured the scene to preserve evidence as investigations begin.
“Following the alleged discovery of a mass grave within the Makaburini Cemetery in Kericho County, officers from the National Police Service promptly visited and secured the scene to preserve the integrity of potential evidence.”
Authorities are now seeking the cemetery caretaker, identified as Ezekiel, who is believed to have facilitated the burial arrangement.

Detectives say he could provide crucial information to help unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is expected to lead the probe, with plans underway to obtain court orders for the exhumation of the bodies.
“At this preliminary stage, we are seeking to establish the veracity of the claims. Some witnesses have since recorded statements, and efforts are underway to locate and interview more persons of interest in this matter.”
The incident has triggered public anxiety, with some Kenyans drawing comparisons to past controversial cases such as the River Yala bodies saga.
However, the police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue, emphasizing that the findings are still preliminary.
“The National Police Service assures the public that this matter is being handled with the utmost seriousness and will be conducted professionally and transparently to ascertain the facts surrounding this incident.”
Authorities have appealed to anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist with investigations through official channels, including anonymous reporting platforms.
