Gachagua Speaks on Forging His Brother’s Will After Family Seeks Ruto’s Intervention

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence over claims that he forged the will of his late brother, Nderitu Gachagua, after some family members sought intervention from President William Ruto.

Speaking during a media interview at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County with Journalists Mwafreeka of Iko Nini Podcast and Sarah Mwangi of Alpha House, on Friday, March 28, 2026, Gachagua dismissed the allegations and accused President Ruto of interfering in private family matters for political reasons.

“Family matters are solved by families, not by the President of the Republic of Kenya. If there is a dispute, it is handled in court under the law of succession, not by the President,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua Dismisses Claims of Disinheriting His Brother’s Will

Gachagua insisted that the succession process following his brother’s death in 2017 was conducted lawfully and transparently, noting that the will had been widely studied and praised for its comprehensiveness.

“My late brother left a will that is even studied at the Kenya School of Law as one of the most advanced. He distributed his wealth to 21 beneficiaries, including his wives, children, siblings, and other dependents,” he stated.

He explained that the will directed that all properties be sold, debts settled, and proceeds shared among beneficiaries based on a clear formula, adding that three executors were appointed to oversee the process, including himself, the family lawyer, and a close associate.

According to Gachagua, the matter was concluded in court by consent in 2018, with all beneficiaries present and in agreement.

“Everybody was in court and agreed. The judge recorded each person’s consent and issued the necessary orders. That is on public record,” he said.

He dismissed recent complaints by some relatives as politically instigated, claiming they had already received their rightful shares.

“All beneficiaries were paid. Those entitled to 10% received about Ksh 50 million, while those with 5% got about Ksh 25 million. No one raised any issue at the time,” he added.

The former Deputy President further accused President Ruto of attempting to create divisions within his family to tarnish his name.

“William Ruto is playing politics because he wants to fight me. He is meddling in family matters that do not concern him,” Gachagua claimed.

He also alleged that some family members met with Ruto on Thursday, March 26, 2026 and had been influenced with promises of jobs and financial incentives to revive the dispute.

“A few relatives have been misled with promises of positions and business opportunities. This is politics, not a genuine family dispute,” he said.

Former DP Says His Brother’s Properties Were Fairly Distributed to Beneficiaries

Gachagua maintained that the estate of his late brother had already been fully distributed and termed the renewed claims as baseless.

“This matter was concluded years ago. There is nothing left to distribute. It is a closed chapter,” he said.

He warned that his legal team would respond formally and urged the President to keep off private family affairs.

“We will ask our lawyers to write to the President and tell him to keep off our family. He is not a member of our family,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua’s response came just hours after the family of his late brother, the former Nyeri County Governor, sought intervention from President William Ruto.

Headed by Margaret Nyokabi Nderitu and her four children, the family alleges that a possibly tampered will has caused them years of hardship following their father’s death.

They claim that one of the late governor’s brothers, using the will and purported political influence, unfairly disinherited them and misappropriated family funds.
