The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has asked principals of all public senior schools to confirm the number of Grade 10 learners and their subject selections in order to support the next phase of textbook distribution across the country.
In a notice issued to school heads on April 1, 2026, the institute said the first phase of distributing Grade 10 textbooks had already been completed using enrolment data that had earlier been submitted through the Ministry of Education.
However, KICD now wants updated figures to ensure accuracy before the second phase begins.
According to the KICD, principals are required to verify and submit the current number of learners taking each subject in their respective schools.

They are also expected to indicate the number of textbooks already received per subject to help determine any existing shortages or surpluses.
KICD explained that the confirmation exercise is necessary to guide the second phase of textbook distribution and to ensure all learners receive learning materials on a one-to-one ratio, which is in line with government policy aimed at supporting effective classroom learning.
The institute further noted that the updated data will help address gaps reported by schools and allow timely redistribution of books where institutions have fewer or excess copies during the initial phase.
Principals have been directed to submit the required information through an official online submission link provided by KICD.
Schools that are yet to receive textbooks or those that received extra copies have also been encouraged to urgently contact KICD through the provided support email and telephone number for immediate assistance.

KICD says the confirmation exercise targets all public senior schools offering Grade 10 under the Competency Based Curriculum as the government continues strengthening the implementation at the senior school level across the country.
KICD has set April 10, 2026, as the deadline for submission of the required information.
