Panic in Kibera as Building Collapses, Fears of Trapped Victims

A building collapse has been reported in the Highrise area of Kibera, prompting an emergency response from rescue teams.

According to the Red Cross, search and rescue operations are currently underway at the scene, with first responders working to assess the extent of the damage and locate any individuals who may be trapped beneath the debris.

According to preliminary information from emergency responders at the site, an unconfirmed number of individuals are feared trapped under the debris, although the exact number of casualties or injuries has not yet been established.

Police officers, county emergency teams and local volunteers have joined the rescue effort, with authorities urging residents to keep away from the scene to allow responders adequate space to continue the ongoing search and recovery operations as more details are awaited.

Update From Red Cross

In an update shared by the Kenya Red Cross, response teams confirmed they had been deployed to the scene shortly after the collapse and were working alongside multi agency responders to support ongoing rescue efforts.

Emergency teams, including officers from the National Police Service and county disaster response units from the Nairobi City County Government, remained at the site as rescuers worked through the debris to reach those believed to have been inside the structure at the time of the incident.

Red Cross report indicated that several individuals were rescued from the rubble and taken to hospital for treatment.

Search Operations Continue

Search operations continued for others who may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.

Witnesses in the area reported hearing a loud rumbling sound moments before the building came down, drawing residents to the scene as emergency teams moved quickly to secure the site and begin coordinated rescue operations.

Cause Of Collapse Not Identified

Authorities have not yet established the cause of the building collapsing.

Investigations are expected once search and rescue efforts are concluded, with officials expected to provide further updates as operations continue at the Highrise scene.
