More than 50 police officers have been redeployed to various stations across Nairobi following the closure of Capitol Hill Police Station after it was officially de-gazetted.
The station, which is located in the Upper Hill area of Nairobi, has been serving institutions and residents within the central business district extension and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Police authorities confirmed that operations at the facility were stopped after the station was removed from the official list of gazetted police stations.
This prompted the immediate relocation of officers and redistribution of services to nearby stations like Kibra, KICC, Central, and Kilimani.
Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Tusca Opondo instructed officers to vacate the premises within the shortest time possible and report to their new duty stations across the sub-county.
“Capitol Hill Police Station has been officially degazetted, and as a result, I have been instructed to vacate the premises within the shortest time possible,” the memo shared internally among officers stated in part.

The closure has also affected ongoing investigations being handled at the station, with multi-agency investigators directed to immediately collect exhibits and files that had been stored at the facility.
“I am instructed to request that all multi-agency investigators with pending cases and exhibits, including motor vehicles currently held at this station, arrange to collect them immediately,” Opondo said in the communication.
Police further advised members of the public with pending cash bail deposits at the station to make arrangements to collect their refunds before the funds are officially transferred to the National Treasury.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the reasons behind the degazettement of the station at the time of the closure.
However, the move has sparked speculation over the future use of the nearly two-acre piece of land on which the station sits in the rapidly developing Upper Hill district.

However, no official communication has been issued regarding any planned developments at the site.
The redeployment of officers is expected to ensure continuity of policing services in areas that were previously served by the station.
Capitol Hill Police Station has been handling investigations involving multiple agencies and providing policing services to government institutions, businesses, and residents within Upper Hill and adjacent areas.
