The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has explained why there are no 2025 cut-off points yet for KCSE 2025 candidates applying for degree courses.
In a statement dated Thursday, April 16, 2026, the placement agency clarified that cut-off points can only be determined after the placement process has been completed.
KUCCPS said the cut-off point for each programme is determined by the cluster weight of the last student who gets a place. It added that the 2025 cut-off points are not yet known because the placement process is still ongoing.
“Cut-off points for 2025 are not yet known. This is because placement must happen first before cut-off points for all programmes are determined,” the agency stated.
The body further explained that the cluster weight of the last successful applicant effectively becomes the official cut-off point for that specific course, meaning the figures can only be established after all applicants have been placed on merit.
KUCCPS has therefore advised applicants to rely on the 2024 cut-off points available on its portal as a guide when making their course selections.

According to the agency, cut-off points represent the lowest weighted cluster points that secured admission into a degree programme in the previous placement cycle. These figures are published to help applicants gauge their chances of securing placement in their preferred courses.
“If your cluster weight is above the previous year’s cut-off point, you have a good chance of being admitted if you apply for that programme,” KUCCPS explained.
The clarification comes amid confusion among candidates and parents who had expected the release of 2025 cut-off points ahead of the application process.
The application process is conducted entirely online via the KUCCPS Student Portal (https://students.kuccps.net/login/), which can be accessed through the official KUCCPS website (https://kuccps.net/).
Candidates are required to log in using their credentials (KCSE Index number, KCSE Year and password), after which they can begin the application process.
Once logged in, applicants are advised to first download the programme lists and cluster documents provided on the portal.

These documents contain detailed information on available degree courses, the universities offering them, minimum subject requirements, and cut-off points from previous years.
Previous years’ cut-off points are meant to help you choose degree courses you are more likely to get. You should compare your cluster weight, shown on the portal, with the 2024 cut-off points to see your chances of admission.
This helps you understand how competitive each course is. To improve your chances, apply for courses in universities where the cut-off point is lower than your cluster weight.
After checking your options, choose the courses you prefer and write down their programme codes.
During the application, these codes must be entered in order of priority, beginning with the most preferred course.
For the first choice, applicants are expected to select the same programme in three different universities, labelled as 1a, 1b, and 1c, before proceeding to list other alternative choices.
