A 43-year-old man is under police guard in a hospital after allegedly attacking his three young children with a machete, beheading his daughter, and leaving his two four-year-old twins in a critical condition in Ikolomani, Kamega County.
The suspect, identified as Nathan Shimenga, is reported to have turned on his children following a domestic dispute with his wife, who left their home and returned to her parents.
Family says he took the children to a riverside, where he brutally attacked them before he was discovered.
The four-year-old twins survived but remain in critical condition at the Kakamega County Reform Hospital.
According to police, Shimenga was later apprehended after being attacked by angry villagers.
How Suspect Attacked Sister First
Shimenga’s sister, Emily Atema, narrated how he started cutting him with a panga without any explanation.
“He started to hold my hand like this, then he started cutting me. I told him what I had done to you. He beat me so much that he even hurt me here,” Atema said.
Wennington Lwamba, the suspect’s brother, said the day before the incident, Shimenga has injured his sister with a machete and also killed a pig.
“He cut my sister, he cut a pig, he slept at night, he woke up this morning, he took his three children, he went with them somewhere, and he cut all three of them. Now I am in pain, and I ask the government to help us,” Lwamba said.

Cutting the Children
Lwamba narrated that the suspect made the children line up and started cutting immediately when he saw the villagers.
He said the first child died on the spot, while the other two fell but survived.

“Now, when we found him and the children, they were in a line, the children were three, and he held the knife. Now, when we got there, he told us you were looking for me, and he took the machete and started to cut the children,” Lwamba said.
“He cut the first child, he died there and there. He cut the second child and the third child, who both fell on the ground.”
