The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRAA) has advised all contractors and suppliers against dealing with fraudsters currently circulating fake Letters of Award.
In a statement on April 20, KeRRA warned that conmen are using fake documents to defraud businesses with the aim of stealing money.
KeRRA said these fake letters tend to lure contractors into thinking they have won a government tender.
“All contractors are hereby advised to be extra vigilant and should never respond to any correspondence that purports to emanate from KeRRA before confirming its authenticity with the authority,” KeRRA said.

The roads agency emphasized it only uses its offices and registered procurement streams when dispatching authentic Letters of Award.
This advisory followed a circulation of a fraudulent document with the agency’s branding that indicated an intention to award a tender to a contractor.
The falsified letter referred to a contract for the upgrading of the Kyambeke-Kikusi-Mumbuni-Kyuasini-Ukia road to bitumen standard.
KeRRA disowned the fake document, warning that it is fraudulent and that all businesses should never respond to the communication, make payment, share any company information to unknown parties.
KeRRA said faudsters normally target real procurement opportunities by employing false logos, fake signatures and contact information to disguise as the real agencies.
Companies that apply to participate in any public tender are advised to independently confirm all award letters through official channels.

KeRRA urges any company that receives a fraudulent letter or query to report it through their official communication channels.
This includes dg@kerra.go.ke and procurement@kerra.go.ke.
KeRRA said it remains firm resolve to conduct its procurement processes transparently and legally.
This will assure contractors adequate protection against scammers aiming for public tenders.
The Agency directed Kenyans to check its official website and communication channels for reliable tender and application outcome information.
They also said to watch out against individuals and fraudsters sending them cloned documents and fake tender papers.
