Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Migos Ogamba granted a Letter of Interim Authority (LIA) to African Talent University during a ceremony that was held at Jogoo House B offices in Nairobi.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education said the action marked a key step in the institution’s journey towards full university accreditation.
The issuance of the LIA gives the university the authority to begin offering academic programmes and awarding qualifications.
This is as the institution continues working towards meeting the requirements set by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
This is the statutory body responsible for regulating university education in Kenya.
“The Letter of Interim Authority now enables the institution to train and award qualifications, while it works towards securing full accreditation,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry of Education said that this move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen access to higher education by supporting the establishment of new institutions in order to complement existing public and private universities.
A Letter of Interim Authority is a crucial stage in the accreditation process for universities in Kenya.
It allows the institutions to develop governance structures, academic programmes, physical infrastructure, and quality assurance systems under the supervision of CUE before receiving a full charter.

Ogamba stated that private universities play an important role in supporting government efforts to expand training opportunities for learners across the country while responding to the growing demand for university education.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education and representatives from the Commission for University Education, alongside stakeholders from the university’s management.

The ministry has, in recent months, continued to emphasise the role of universities in supporting national development priorities.
This has included alignment of programmes with labour market needs and preparations for the transition of learners under the Competency Based Education framework into higher education institutions in the coming years.
African Talent University now joins other institutions that have received interim authority status as part of the government’s broader strategy to expand access, improve training capacity, and strengthen the country’s higher education ecosystem.
