Questions have been raised over Ksh 42 million that the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) allegedly paid for insurance cover during the CHAN tournament.
Indications are that the federation appointed an unknown company to cover civil liability for the 2025 African Nations Championship.
Authorities indicated that FKF received quotations from three prominent insurers and refused to award the contract to any of them.
The companies Takaful Insurance, Old Mutual, and Britam had presented bids for the protection valued at around Ksh 3.8 billion for civil liability cover.

Britam submitted a bid of about Ksh 29 million, significantly lower than the amount eventually paid.
Despite the lower bids, Football Kenya Federation paid $328,735 (approximately Ksh 42.4 million) for civil liability cover for the 2025 CHAN games to another company formed just two months earlier, raising concerns about the firm’s experience and whether FKF received value for money.
Senior FKF officials approved the payment on August 4, 2025, for the cover, which the Confederation of African Football requires as a mandatory condition for host nations before matches can be played, during the tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Former FKF CEO Harold Ndege defended the payment process by stating in a letter to the LOC that FKF adhered to all the necessary procurement procedures and called for various quotations.
He failed to explain why FKF accepted higher charges.
Local Organization Committee chair Nicholas Musonye confirmed that FKF had met all CAF requirements and that the event would not have taken place without valid insurance coverage, but declined to name the company.
FKF has been uncooperative with the publication of this information, leading to a public demand for the federation to justify accepting a more expensive insurance package.
