Several Injured as Two Trains Collide Head-On in Denmark Near Copenhagen

Several people sustained injuries after two local trains collided head-on in Denmark on Thursday, April 23, 2026, along the Hillerød–Kagerup railway line in northern Copenhagen, prompting a large emergency response at the scene.

Officials confirmed that at least 17 people were injured, with four remaining in critical condition.

The collision occurred at around 6:30 a.m. during peak commuter hours, when both trains were carrying passengers heading to work and school.

Images from the scene showed the two trains facing each other with heavily damaged front sections.

The crash site lies in a wooded area near the tracks. Debris was scattered along the railway line as emergency teams secured the area.

“It is two local trains that have collided head-on,” a rescue services spokesperson described the incident.

Emergency Response and Evacuation

Emergency responders arrived quickly and began rescue operations. They deployed ambulances and helicopters to support evacuation efforts. Medical teams treated the injured at the scene before transferring them to nearby hospitals.

“There are injuries among the passengers. Everyone is out of the trains, so no one is trapped. Large resources have been dispatched to the scene,” he added

Furthermore, emergency crews continued working at the site for several hours.

They coordinated rescue efforts and ensured all passengers were accounted for. Police officers also controlled access to the area to allow smooth operations.

Casualties and Ongoing Response

Health officials continue to monitor the condition of those injured. Some patients received treatment for serious injuries, while others sustained minor wounds. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.

Meanwhile, helicopters transported critically injured passengers to specialized medical facilities. Ground teams supported the evacuation by moving other injured passengers to nearby hospitals.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the collision. However, they have not provided details on what led to the crash. Investigators remain at the scene collecting evidence and reviewing railway operations.

At the same time, the incident disrupted rail services along the affected route. Transport officials are working to restore normal operations as investigations continue.
