Road traffic accident on the Mai Mahiu-Narok Road has been followed by statements from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), as authorities investigate the cause of the incident.

In a statement on Sunday, April 26, NTSA said the accident, which claimed several lives, took place in the Nairegia locality and attracted considerable attention to the issue of road safety on one of the country’s busiest transport routes.

As reported in the statement released by the NTSA, “The Authority wishes to express sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased in this sad road traffic accident.”

NTSA pledged to assist the bereaved as it seeks to investigate the causes of the accident.

The Authority has said that the investigation into the incident involves collaboration with the National Police Service as they look into the reasons behind the crash.

“The Authority wishes to confirm that it is collaborating with the National Police Service in a bid to establish the facts of the case which led the driver to lose control of the car and cause a head-on collision.”

Investigation and Policy Response

It was stated that the results of the investigation would be used for safety-related reforms.

NTSA states that, “From this investigation, we will make recommendations based on facts for the main priority areas of the National Road Safety Action Plan (2024-2028).”

The accident has also resulted in the re-orientation of efforts towards the implementation of enforcement programs.

“Operation Watoto Wafike Salama will be stepped up across the nation to ensure safe travels of our kids during back-to-school periods,” NTSA said.
