Standard Chartered Kenya’s Sustainable Finance Assets Rise to Ksh 62.5 Billion

Standard Chartered Kenya has reported growth in their sustainable finance business, with its sustainable finance assets increasing by 11% to Ksh 62.5 billion in 2025.

According to a report by Standard Chartered dated July 30, 2026, it shows that sustainable finance revenue rose by 16% to Ksh 3.5 billion during the year, which reflects the increased demand for financial solutions that support climate resilience.

The report says that cumulative sustainable finance revenue has reached Ksh 7.9 billion since 2021.

Financing Solutions 

Standard Chartered Kenya CEO and Head of Coverage Birju Sanghrajika said sustainability has become closely linked to business growth as more clients continue to look for financial partners that can provide capital.

“Sustainability is no longer a separate conversation from business growth. Our clients are increasingly looking for banking partners that can help them access capital, manage risk and build more resilient businesses in a rapidly changing operating environment,” Birju commented on the report.

He noted that the bank continues to support its clients by connecting them to financing solutions that contribute to Kenya’s long-term development priorities.

The report indicates that corporate and investment banking remained a key point of their sustainability performance, which is through sustainability-linked lending, trade finance and advisory services.

These are aimed at supporting clients’ transition plans and environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements.

In the wealth management segment, assets that are under management in the digital SC Shilingi Money Market Fund increased by 47% to Ksh 27.8 billion.

Investors

Additionally, the report states that investors below forty years account for 62% of SC Shilingi clients, while women represent 49% of the investors.

In addition, support for women entrepreneurs also continued through the Standard Chartered Women International Programme that currently serves 491 entrepreneurs managing Ksh 2.9 billion in assets.

On environmental sustainability, Standard Chartered has reported a 9.7% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions from its operations in 2025.

On the other hand, water consumption declined by 22.6% while 84% of operational waste was recycled during the year.

Community initiatives have also been highlighted in the report; the Standard Chartered Foundation programmes have reached more than 55,900 young people.

Job Creation

This facilitated the creation of 1,583 jobs through entrepreneurship and supported 519 young people to secure employment, with a focus on women and people with disabilities.

Employees also contributed 4,039 hours of skills-based volunteering in 2025, with 87% of their staff participating in volunteer activities.

The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon attracted 30,668 participants and was able to raise Ksh 76.3 million to support foundation programmes.

Standard Chartered Marathon event also managed to promote environmental conservation through the distribution of 10,000 tree seedlings and 30,000 seed balls.

As of the report, Standard Chartered remains focused on transparency, accountability and measurable progress in sustainable finance.
